Altra Running
No, Altras are not technically barefoot shoes. They DO have a wide toe box, they DO have zero drop and they DO have a neutral foot bed (no arch support). BUT, they have cushioning (around 25mm). There are a number of reasons we would recommend you try Altra Running Shoes...
1. You would like to transition into barefoot shoes but need to take it slowly. The additional cushioning means your body can get used to the zero drop and build up some strength before adding in the ground feel.
3. Your foot or body mechanics are too far altered and just won't allow you to be comfortable in full barefoot shoes.
Altra wasn't started in some corporate office, but in the back room of a Wasatch Mountain running store. Our founders, —elite athletes and running store managers, —wanted a shoe that let you run the way you were born to. They noticed that the design of most running shoes was hurting runners more than helping them. Elevated heels promote high-impact landing and narrow toe boxes squeeze the toes out of their natural position.
