What is a barefoot shoe?
What is a barefoot shoe?
A barefoot shoe is designed with the natural shape and function of a foot in mind. The key elements that define a barefoot shoe are FLAT, THIN, FLEXIBLE and WIDE. They’ll protect your feet from the elements and the terrain but they’ll feel as much like walking barefoot as possible. 'Regular' shoes can cause many issues with our feet and body. It's time to make the change. We’ve gathered together some of the best barefoot shoes and brought them to Australia so you no longer have to sacrifice comfort or style.
Barefoot InformationWhy barefoot shoes?
Why barefoot shoes?
Barefoot shoes feature a flexible, flat sole that allows your foot to bend and flex naturally, unlike traditional footwear with stiff soles and elevated heels. This design supports the natural shape and biomechanics of your feet, promoting better posture, balance, and overall foot health. Traditional shoes, with their narrow toe boxes and restrictive shapes, can deform your feet over time, contributing to conditions like bunions, hammer toes, plantar fasciitis and so much more. With 26 bones, 31 joints, and over 100 muscles, ligaments, and tendons, your feet are designed to move. Constantly restricting this movement affects the entire body, with ankles, knees, hips, and the back compensating for poor foot function. Barefoot shoes allow your feet to move freely, strengthening muscles and improving comfort whether you're walking, running, or standing.
Our StoryWhere Do I Start?
Where Do I Start?
When transitioning to barefoot shoes, it’s best to start with everyday footwear rather than jumping into running, gym, or sports shoes, where your feet are under more strain. Begin with work shoes, walking shoes, or casual shoes—whatever you wear most often. This will allow your feet to gradually adapt to the new, natural movement. Listen to your body during this process—some people can switch straight over, while others may need a bit of transition time. Foot massages and strengthening exercises can help ease the adjustment. It’s normal to feel some fatigue as your foot muscles begin working in ways they haven’t before. Once you’re comfortable in everyday shoes, you can start progressing to sports footwear for more demanding activities. Patience and gradual adaptation are key!
How to Transition
Mission
We’re reshaping the way Australians think about footwear. Shoes should support natural movement, enhancing comfort and function rather than restricting them.
Our mission is to make barefoot shoes more accessible across Australia by continually expanding our range and sourcing high-quality, stylish footwear from brands with a conscience around the world. But we aim to go beyond just providing shoes—we’re here to educate, inspire, and empower. Through expert resources and guidance, we help people who want to prioritize strength and longevity to ditch the limitations of conventional footwear and embrace an active lifestyle rooted in natural movement.
